While most people probably stayed inside this past weekend due to the rain, Adventure Outings was out and about running four different trips and taking advantage of being outside while nature put on a water show!
Saturday morning, a very excited group of us headed an hour and a half south of Chico into the Plumas National Forest to hike the Feather Falls Trail. Knowing there was a chance of rain we took appropriate precautions by bringing rainproof layers and sturdy shoes for this nine mile hiking loop. As we began the hike the weather was just slightly overcast with a cool breeze making the hiking conditions very pleasant. It wasn’t long before the sound of thunder echoed through the trees. Just as we approached the final ascent to the Feather Falls lookout the clouds opened up and began drenching us with rain. The smell of the first rain was refreshing and the feeling was absolutely exhilarating! While on the trail we came across banana slugs and orange salamanders that were pleased to be out in the rain as well! We stopped at the Feather Falls lookout deck and took a break for lunch and pictures of the impressive 410 foot falls. Continuing the loop back to the beginning we enjoyed good company and conversation as we scurried through the moss covered trees and greenery while listening to the sounds of rain. Although we all were a little soaked at the end of the hike, the warm and dry Adventure Outings van was waiting for us at the beginning of the trail! Not even a little rain could stop us from having fun and enjoying this amazing hike. If you missed out on this thrilling adventure, and would like to see Feather Falls for yourself, we still have two more Feather Falls hike and camp trips to sign up for this semester!
